RESOLUTIONS. MEDIA DEMOCRACY DAY -- CHICAGO 2009

I. RESOLUTIONS

- WHEREAS concentration of for-profit power over all major media limits and distorts democratic discussion of important issues, such as waging wars; destroying the environment; disempowering workers; slandering racial, ethnic and lifestyle groups; invading privacy; and devaluing the poor, the sick, the very young, and the very old --

BE IT RESOLVED, this Media Democracy Day -- Chicago 2009 forum calls upon legislators, regulators, and judges to break up the monopolistic commercial control of the media.

- WHEREAS achieving significant media reforms will require many organizations and many people working together --

AND WHEREAS powerful action programs and proposals have been discussed today --

BE IT RESOLVED, this Media Democracy Day -- Chicago 2009 forum authorizes the planners of today's event to call a followup meeting to review developments related to these action programs and proposals.
